THE RUNDOWN
In their final match of the Oredigger Volleyball Classic, DBU (1-3) lost to Colorado Mesa (3-1).  Freshman Macey Winburn led the team in hitting percentage (1.000) and was second on the team in assists (10). Freshman Savannah Whitfield was also a leader in hitting percentage (.250).
In the first set, the Lady Patriots led from the start scoring three points before the Mavericks could get their first. The Mavericks fought back tying the score 10-10 before taking the lead. Colorado Mesa's Kasie Gilfert recorded two kills allowing the Mavericks to extend the lead. After the Patriots took a timeout, the Mavericks crept ahead another two points but it wasn't long until senior Emma Eakin and sophomore Carly Earnest posted two kills tying the game again, 12-12. DBU kept the momentum going as Colorado Mesa trailed close behind. The Mavericks were able to score four points in a row to tie the game once-again 21-21. Colorado Mesa won the first set 25-22.
The Lady Patriots and Mavericks were neck and neck matching every point in the second set. But Colorado Mesa pulled ahead with four kills by Kasie Gilfert which helped take the Mavericks to a 17-9 lead ahead of the Lady Patriots. The Mavericks took the second set winning 25-14.
DBU jumped out to a quick 9-6 lead in the third set. The Mavericks following close behind couldn't catch up to DBU. Freshman Macey Winburn helped extend the lead 18-15 after a kill from Alyssa Pevehouse. It was a fight to the finish for DBU as Colorado Mesa trailed close behind. After a DBU timeout, a kill by Kasey Holand took the score to 22-20 with the Lady Patriots still in the lead. A final kill by Lexi Houston from Strealy Sizelove took the score to 25-22 helping DBU win the third set.
In the fourth set, Colorado Mesa led early with an 8-0 lead. A kill by freshman Savannah Whitfield helped put the Lady Patriots on the board. DBU rallied back with a 5-0 run forcing the Mavericks into a timeout. Two kills and an attack error led Colorado Mesa to a 16-9 lead ahead of DBU. The Mavericks went on to score the next six points forcing the Lady Patriots to take a timeout. Emma Eakin went on to post two kills, but it wasn't enough for the team to bounce back. Colorado Mesa won the final set 25-15.
