Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 20 DBU Topped by Tarleton, 77-72

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Basketball team fell to Tarleton, 77-72 Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center in a game that was not decided until the final 18 seconds. The Patriots (14-4, 8-4) drop their third of the last four and consecutive home games for the first time since November of 2016.

Much like its last outing verses UT Permian Basin, DBU was locked in a competitive game at the half. The Texans forced the Patriots to keep the ball on the perimeter with 5 blocks in the opening frame. DBU took advantage of the opportunity by nailing 11 treys for a 39-35 edge at intermission. The following 20 minutes featured momentum-shifting dunks, scoring droughts, and turnovers in big moments in route to Tarleton escaping the Burg center with the five-point victory.

Julian Miranda led the way for the injury-depleted Patriots with 13 points and five rebounds. Carson Hughes and Tylan Dean contributed 11 points apiece while Conner Lidiak added 10 of his own.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-The Patriots close their three game homestand with a 1-2 record and will not play at home again until February 6th versus Cameron.
-The Texans level the series record against the Patriots at 2-2 (.500)
-DBU will look to avoid the program's first three game losing streak since 2015

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE GAME
"We had some opportunities; we just didn't get enough stops or keep them off the foul line. I thought both teams played hard I really don't think we played terrible. We just had some careless errors, some live ball turnovers and things like that. We know our schedule is a little daunting, so we got to keep getting better and find ways to beat these teams."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
33 – DBU allowed Tarleton to get comfortable at the charity stripe for 33 attempts at the free throw line.
11-2 – The Texans outscored the Patriots 11-2 in second chance opportunities, a stat that proved critical in a close game.
11 – The Burg center hosted a block party as both squads combined for 11 blocks on the afternoon.

UP NEXT
The Patriots are back in action on the road versus St. Mary's on January 30th. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
