THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Basketball team fell to St. Edward's University by a score of 87-80 in Austin late Saturday afternoon. DBU (15-5) splits its road trip 1-1, while falling to 9-5 in conference play entering the final month of the regular season.
The Patriot offense that flowed so freely Thursday night against St. Mary's was given no easy points versus the third ranked Hilltopper defensive. DBU was forced into difficult shots on almost every possession and made the most of it, shooting a respectable 46 percent from the floor. DBU overcame two double digit deficits before exhaustion set in during the final five minutes as the Patriots settled for poor shots. A series of missed Hilltopper free throw and timely Patriot buckets in the final minute provided DBU one final opportunity with St. Edward's clinging to an 84-80 lead.
Sophomore guard
Carson Hughes recorded 20 points for the Patriots, nailing difficult jumpers all game on 60 percent shooting from the field. Hughes was joined in double figures by
Chandler Jacobs and
Jalen White, who combined for 22 points on 63 percent shooting.

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE GAME
"St. Ed's is tough; they force you to be great on both sides of the ball and they are hard to prepare for. They jumped on us early, but we battled back. I'm proud of the way we competed to take the lead in the second half. Carson had a great day for us, and Jalen gave us some great minutess as well."
