DBU STUNT Competes in First Competition

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU STUNT team traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this past weekend (Feb. 8-9) for their first ever STUNT tournament. The other teams that attended the competition were Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Baptist, Maryville, Southwest Baptist, and Southwestern Christian.

On the first day of the competition, the Patriots went up against nationally-ranked teams, playing OCU and Oklahoma Baptist. Both teams placed in the top ten of the 2019 Division II National Championships and played a major part in the Patriots growing experience over the weekend. The Patriots also saw Maryville who went on to win 18-5.

After a full day of games, the Patriots looked to improve their scores against SBU and SCU on Sunday. DBU fell to SBU by just four points (13-9) and to SCU (14-10). DBU is now looking to improve in both Quarter 1 (partner stunts) and Quarter 2 (pyramids and tosses) ahead of their next competition. Head coach Callie Fisher says despite the team's loss, they had outstanding performances in the second half of the competition (group jumps & tumbling and team performance). The team now looks to outperform themselves and prepare for their next two-day competition on their home court.

QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH CALLIE FISHER ON TEAM GETTING EXPERIENCE

"We went into this weekend just wanting the girls to learn the sport and truly enjoy the competition. First year STUNT teams don't win a lot of games, as the team is adjusting to compete STUNT. The sport is very different compared to competitive cheerleading. Although our scores didn't reflect it, the team looked clean throughout each game and they fought hard each round of competition."

QUOTE FROM ERIN JOHNSON, STUNT SOUTHWEST REGIONAL DIRECTOR

"If I could give a 'Newcomer of the Week' award, it would go to DBU. Their attitudes, sportsmanship, and love for each other and for STUNT was apparent all weekend. And to top it off, they competed with the skill and composure of a veteran program."
