THE RUNDOWN
No. 23 DBU took down UT Arlington with a 4-0 win Tuesday night at Horner Ballpark.
Austin Bell,
Andres Sosa, and
Jeffrey David spurred the offense, while
Zach Heaton provided 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball to earn the win.
The Patriots (4-0) got the scoring started early in the first inning as
Jace Grady led off with a double.
Austin Bell traded places with Grady on a double to left-center to put DBU on top 1-0.
Andres Sosa delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Bell giving the Patriots a two run cushion they would hold until the sixth inning.
Heaton surrendered two hits in 5.1 innings before giving way to the bullpen.
Peyton Sherlin,
Cole Reeves, and
Burl Carraway worked a combined 3.2 innings of solid relief work. Sherlin scattered one hit across two-thirds of an inning of shutout relief, while
Cole Reeves tossed two scoreless innings.
Jeffrey David drove in a pair of runs in the sixth to extend the Patriot lead to 4-0.
UTA (3-1) threatened in the ninth, as Phillip Childs doubled to lead off the inning but was caught stealing third by Sosa for the first out of the inning. Carraway then worked a four-six-three double play to secure the win.

HEAD COACH DAN HEEFNER ON ZACH HEATON'S START Â
"Zach looked great. It's his third year in the program, and he's a Patriot. He's everything we're all about as a person with his work ethic, self-discipline, the way he's developed the last three years. It's not a huge surprise to us how he's thrown because that's what he's done in his pre-season outings. He's got good stuff and can really pitch."
