THE RUNDOWN
No. 18 DBU earned a split of its season series with UT Arlington with a 6-3 loss Tuesday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
Zach Heaton retired nine straight from the second to the fourth inning, but the Mavericks were able to score five times on five hits to provide its pitching staff enough cushion to earn the win.
The Patriots (6-2) scored in the first inning on a
Jeffrey David RBI double giving DBU the 1-0 lead. The Mavericks answered in the bottom of the first as Anthony Dominguez singled home Zac Cook to even the score.
In the fourth, UTA put up a five-spot on three hits including back-to-back homers by Phillip Childs and Josh Minjarez.
The Patriots got a pair of runs back in the eighth when
Jimmy Glowenke doubled for the first time in 2020 scoring
Austin Bell.
Jackson Glenn and
Jeffrey David produced back-to-back hits as David singled home Glowenke making the score 6-3. That was as close as DBU would come as Michael Wong inherited two runners on with no outs, but was able to get a double play and a strikeout eliminating the Patriot threat.
Zach Heaton took the loss, allowing five runs in 3.0 innings in his second start of the season. After the pitching staff allowed six runs in the first three-plus innings, the combination of
Luke Trahan,
Peyton Sherlin,
Kragen Kechely,
T.J. Mullins and
Ross Carver combined to limit the Mavericks to one run over the final 5.0 innings.
