THE LEAD
DBU took a series-opening win in walk-off fashion over Arkansas State by a score of 5-4 on Friday night.
Jimmy Glowenke delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the tenth inning scoring
Dan Pruitt and
Jace Grady to seal the victory.
Ray Gaither attacked the strike zone all night with efficiency, recording nine strikeouts to one walk through six innings. Arkansas State (4-5) managed just four hits off the senior righty on 89 total pitches.
The Patriots (7-2) took an early lead on a throwing error by Zech Jarrard in the second inning. Liam Hicks hit a two-run shot in the top of the third to take a 2-1 ASU lead. DBU answered with a run in the fourth and fifth inning thanks to a passed ball and a sac fly by Glowenke.
The Red Wolves answered in the top of the seventh tying the score at 3-3 without a hit.
In the top of the tenth inning, ASU scored the go-ahead run on a trio of walks and a hit-by-pitch. In the bottom half, Pruitt singled to right followed by Grady reaching on a hit-by-pitch.
Austin Bell laid down an excellent bunt loading the bases with no outs.
Glowenke then delivered the game-winning single to left field on a fastball over the inner-half of the plate scoring the tying run in Pruitt and the winning run in Grady.
Ross Carver,
Peyton Sherlin,
Kragen Kechely and
Burl Carraway combined for four innings of no-hit relief as Carraway earned his second win of the season.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
 - DBU defeated Arkansas State for the first time since 1999.

 - Two of the four games at Horner Ballpark this season have ended in walk-off wins, the first time since the 2017 season.
COACH DAN HEEFNER ON THE COMEBACK WIN
"It all started with
Dan Pruitt. He had a plan going into that at bat, he was going to sit on an off-speed and he did it. He got his swing off early, was waiting on a breaking ball and he got it. You know, the hit-by-pitch, then
Austin Bell, we've talked about him before and his maturity. That's the second time he's laid down a perfect bunt in a situation when we really needed it. Obviously
Jimmy Glowenke, he loves that situation more than anybody."
JIMMY GLOWENKE ON THE WALK-OFF SINGLE
"I knew they weren't going to comeback with another fastball because I barreled up the breaking ball pretty well. I wish I could've kept that fair, but on the fastball I was a little late but it was enough to get the job done. We know we're going to get the job done as a team, we have confidence and it's a lot of fun."
