Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

No. 15 DBU Wins Slugfest Over Midwestern State, 81-80

THE RUNDOWN
No. 15 DBU took game one over Midwestern State, 81-80 Friday afternoon in a game that felt tangible to everyone inside the walls of the Burg Center.

The Patriots (8-1) relinquished their 47-45 lead at intermission; they would not retake control until the final 30 seconds following a timely three-pointer from Chandler Jacobs and critical defensive rebound from Cameron Kahn to secure the win over (7-3) MSU.

It took everyone to help DBU weather the storm of Midwestern State's Jermane Carter and Derrick Ogechi, who each scored 19 a piece for a Mustang offense that shot 53 percent from the floor. DBU's Ricky Lujan posted a game-high 23 points on 6-of-12 perimeter shooting. Cameron Kahn was perfect from the field (7-of-7) for a career-high 15 points to go along with his game-sealing rebound. Chandler Jacobs (12) and William Heather (10) also scored in double figures in a game where every Patriot recorded a point.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-Jacobs gathered five boards against the Mustangs, bumping him past Patrick Burke for third all-time with 525.

-Jacobs' 12 point performance leaves him just three shy of Nick Fox for fourth in all-time scoring at 1,665 career points.

-DBU is now 3-0 in the career series against MSU.

COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WIN
"We have so much respect for MSU. We understood it would be a battle, and it proved to be one from start to finish. We have talked a lot about mental toughness this year, and I thought we showed that today. We fell behind in both halves, struggled through some adversity, and found a way to battle back. In the last minute Ricky [Ricky Lujan], Cam [Cameron Kahn], and Carson [Carson Hughes] all came up big on both ends of the floor.
