Patriots Use Miracle Alley-Oop to Survive MSU, 91-90

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 15 Patriots used a miraculous inbound buzzer-beating alley-oop to top Midwestern State, 91-90 Saturday afternoon at the Burg Center. Carson Hughes baited the MSU defender to the left before launching a beautiful pass to Jalen White, who met the ball at the rim behind a Patriot clear-out to beat the horn and keep DBU undefeated at home.

DBU (9-1) and MSU (7-4) picked right up where they left off following Friday night's slugfest. The Patriots outlasted the Mustangs in a gritty rematch that featured a combined 32 turnovers and 42 fouls.

Midwestern State erased a 21 point second-half deficit with a three-point barrage from Derrick Ogegchi and a coordinated attack against the Patriot bigs, who found themselves in late-game foul trouble. Jermane Carter put together an outstanding game for the Mustangs, as he finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

For DBU, Ricky Lujan shook off an early ankle injury to finish with a team-high 21 points on a perfect 7-for-7 performance from the charity stripe. Chandler Jacobs executed on both ends of the floor as he chipped in 18 points and a game-high three steals. William Heather and Austin Garner submitted their own impressive performances; the tandem finished with a combined 28 points as the Patriots placed five in double figures.

Carson Hughes' game-winning assist was just one of his game-high seven dimes. Jalen White, who sealed the game with the dunk, finished with 11 points of his own on a perfect 4-4 shooting from the field.

COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WIN

"That was fun. To have a special season, you got to have a few bounces go your way. To find a way to win close games and execute. I think our experience showed tonight... We knew they would fight. They're too good of a team to just roll over. I'm proud of the way we executed at the end and that we finished the job."
