THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Basketball team fell to UT Permian Basin, 99-97 Friday night. With the loss, DBU (9-2) becomes the second No. 11 seed in the last seven days to drop at the hands of the Falcons.Â
DBU's first overtime contest of the season was not without its fair share of drama. A power outage caused the lights in the Falcon Dome to go out following a Ricky Lujan three-pointer that gave the Patriots a 97-96 edge in the final minute of overtime. Once the court was adequately reilluminated, a Joran Horn three-ball gave UTPB a 99-97 lead that would not be relinquished.Â
Chandler Jacobs and Ricky Lujan paced the Patriot offense. The duo combined for 51 points on 50 percent shooting. Cameron Kahn poured in a career-best 19 points as the freshman scored in double figures for the third time in the last four games. William Heather chipped in 15 points of his own on a season-high seven field goals.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-Jacobs passed Amari Bryant for fifth place on the all-time three-point list with 167 career treys.
-Both of DBU's losses have come on the road this season.Â
-The Falcons have won their last two matchups against the Patriots but trail the all-time series 11-14.
COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE OVERTIME LOSS
"UTPB has been in a stretch of tough game against several of the top teams in the league. They were hungry and battle-tested tonight. Horn [Jordan Horn] took over the game in the second half... We're going to have to find a way to generate better ball movement tomorrow and defend with more toughness."
