No. 21 DBU Erases 22-Point Deficit to Topple No. 3 Buffs, 87-78

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 21 Patriots erased a 22-point deficit to defeat No. 3 West Texas A&M, 87-78 on the road. With the win, DBU (5-1) snapped a 45-game home win streak by West Texas A&M that dated back to January of 2018.

The Patriots used a resurgent second-half offense and timely defense to orchestrate a 17-2 run in the final 10 minutes while holding the Buffs' top-ranked offense to 36 percent shooting. DBU battled through a ferocious defense and an offensive onslaught from WT's Joel Murray (26 points on 10-19 shooting) that left the Patriots in an 18-point deficit at halftime.

The hole would deepen to 22 points, with the Buffs feasting on Patriot turnovers for 20 points off 19 giveaways. DBU would eventually turn the corner, improving from 10 percent to 63 percent from downtown while adding defensive pressure with five blocks and 41 defensive rebounds.

Chandler Jacobs led the way for DBU with a 24 point, 11 rebound, double-double. Ricky Lujan and Carson Hughes came alive in the second half to score a combined 33 points; the guards used backdoor cuts and timely three-balls to help protect the Patriot comeback in the closing minutes. Jalen White (15 points,12 rebounds) and Cameron Kahn (14 points) also finished in double figures for DBU.

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE COMEBACK WIN
"Tonight felt like a movie. A tale of two halves. We could not have been worse in the first half, we were on our heels and dominated in every way. In the second half, we showed the competitive spirit I knew we had… It took a lot of character to not fold and respond. They're one of the best teams in the country and we wanted to show we belong in that conversation as well. I am so proud of our effort and response in the second half."
