THE RUNDOWN
No. 10 DBU ( 10-2, 6-1 LSC) blasted St. Edward's (6-2-3, 4-1-1 LSC) 7-0 Wednesday afternoon. Rain threatened in the North Texas sky, but it was the DBU offense that stormed upon Patriot Soccer Field as six different Patriots scored a goal to give DBU its largest margin of victory since 2013.Â
In a historically competitive series between the two squads, the Patriots handed the Hilltoppers their worst loss in 30 years. Fifth-year forward Delaney Schmidt scored off an assist from Summerlyn Heller two minutes into the match. DBU would find an insurance goal just 90 seconds later, as Schmidt connected with Abigail Olmos on the 2-0 strike. Olmos, who led the Patriots in scoring on the day, notched her second score in the 21st minute to send DBU into the break up 3-0.Â
The Patriots returned to the Pitch as if they were the team down three scores, quickly finding another from Michelle Gonzalez (Marta) in the 51st minute. Schmidt continued to be an offensive catalyst, feeding Ashley Merrill her sixth goal of the year as the offense continued to barrage Hilltoppers' goalkeeper Meghan Dunning. Madison Smalley and Kaleigh Naizer pushed across scores in the 60th and 82nd minute to complete the seven-goal outburst.Â

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE WINÂ
"I'm really, really proud of the girls today. That was a fantastic win for us. St. Edward's is a great program. I think the key for us is that we got off to a great start. We had a couple of early goals and some great intensity. When you get out to an early lead, it allows you to control the game, and we did that... Really happy with our players off the bench for keeping the energy level high and scoring some fantastic goals. It was a great win and just have to keep getting better from here."
