DBU Outpaces UTPB 3-1 on the Road

THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots (4-4, 1-2 LSC) took down the Falcons 3-1 Wednesday evening in Odessa, Texas. Three different Patriots found the back of the net, with the game-winning goal scored off an Ethan Unger set piece in the 72nd minute as DBU completed the season sweep of UTPB (2-10-2, 1-3 LSC.)

The Patriots snapped their first-half scoring drought, punching in a goal in the 25th minute as Christian Naizer scored off an assist from Ethan Unger. However, the Falcons would counter just 10 minutes later when Salvador Vargas Ramos sent a free kick into the lower-left corner of the net to reset the match at 1-1. The two teams entered halftime in a 1-1 draw despite DBU being the early offensive aggressor.

UTPB came out swinging in the second half of action, launching five unanswered shots at Alexander Knepper. Knepper was resilient in goal for the Patriots, earning five second-half saves as the offense looked to regain its footing. Unger reignited the offense in the 72nd minute, bending a free kick past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Alfonso Aragon to give DBU the 2-1 lead. The Patriots continued to attack, placing four more shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of play. Finally, in the 89th minute, Mason Wallak found Emmanuel Loni on a DBU counterattack to put the game away.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-Jess Jobe earns his first conference win at the helm of the Patriots.
-DBU has outscored the Falcons 6-2 in their last two meetings.
-The Patriots have held opponents to a single goal in six of their first eight games.

COACH JESS JOBE ON THE WIN

"That was a good step forward for this team. I'm happy we got a goal in the first half and got out on the front foot... In the second half, we needed to settle in a little bit. There were some dangerous moments when we allowed them [UTPB] to get some good looks, and the game continued to be very open... We earned a set-piece around the top of the box, and Ethan Unger stepped up with a free kick goal that he placed directly on the frame... We had several chances to find the insurance goal a little bit sooner, but we were able to put the game away on a counterattack...I want to celebrate the win and celebrate our first three points in conference play. But we can't be satisfied and we have to push on and find a way to put together a 90-minute performance."
