No. 8 DBU Bounces Back With 1-0 Win Over TWU

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 8 DBU Women's Soccer team edged TWU, 1-0 in a Wednesday evening road contest. The Patriots (8-2, 4-1 LSC) jumped ahead in the 13th minute following a goal from fifth-year defender Summerlyn Heller. DBU then weathered a barrage of Pioneer (6-2-2, 3-2 LSC) corner kicks to collect its fifth shutout win of the season.

The Pioneers were presented with the evening's first scoring opportunity, but a diving save from goalkeeper Hailey Brown knocked the ball off the frame in the game's opening minutes. Moments later, Summerlyn Heller rearranged a TWU defender and snuck the go-ahead score inside the top right corner of the goal post. DBU would continue to be the aggressor in the first half, but the Texas Woman's defense rallied over the final 30 minutes to remain within striking distance.

TWU's offensive aggression slowly mounted in the second half. Finally, in the 57th minute, they threatened with the equalizer. The Patriots faced three separate corner kicks in one minute as the Pioneers swarmed the pitch looking for a crack in DBU's armor. Instead, Rachel Allen paced back and forth, knocking the ball off of Pioneer feet as DBU weathered another volley of TWU corner kicks before the buzzer finally sounded.
