Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 8 Patriots Pass a Tough 2-1 Test Versus Angelo State

THE RUNDOWN
The No. 8 DBU Women's Soccer team mounted a 2-1 comeback win over Angelo State on a windy Saturday afternoon at Patriot Soccer Field. In a rematch of last spring's Lone Star Conference Championship, DBU scored in the 13th and 55th minutes against an ASU defense that ranks 12th in the country.

The Belles grabbed the early 1-0 edge following an unassisted goal by Valerie Solis in the 10th minute. However, the Patriots only needed three minutes to find the equalizer. Delaney Schmidt would have her first shot of the contest blocked by the Belles backline, but the fifth-year forward would track her shot and find in the 1-1 score off the deflection.

Following halftime, Schmidt would connect with Abigail Olmos for the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-The Patriots improve to 3-4 all-time versus the Belles.
-Today's meeting between the two squads was the first decided in regulation since 2019.
-Head Coach Michelle Lenard records her 191st career win.

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE WIN
"All credit to Angelo State that is a very good team, very dangerous and possesses tremendous team speed. We knew it was going to be tough. These are two of the top teams in the conference and we knew it was going to come down to a battle... We need to come out to a better start. We were a little bit sluggish at first and we had to wake up, and then we responded very well. The changes in the second half really gave us some good opportunities... We had a fabulous goal from Abby, maybe the best goal I've seen all season and then we had the gritty defending at the end that it takes to earn wins."

ABIGAIL OLMOS ON THE GAME-WINNING GOAL
"We practice that cut-back pass with the finish at practice all the time. I knew when I saw Delaney driving the line she was looking for that pass... It went through, and I had a player with me and knew I needed to rush in before she got to it. I was able to get to it and stay composed in front of the goal to finish."
