THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of the Dustdevils (4-5-1, 1-0 LSC) Saturday evening in the Lone Star Conference opener. A red card in the 28th minute left DBU (3-3, 0-1 LSC) a man down for a majority of the contest as A&M-International's Kristian Colaci earned a game-high two goals and an assist.
Much of the first half was quiet for both squads, as the first shot attempt of the game didn't come until the 18th minute. TAMIU registered its first goal in the 35th minute when Johan Portales connected with a streaking Colaci, who knifed through the DBU defense to find the back of the net. The Patriots would shake off the score and finish the first half on the attack, earning two corners and a free kick in search of the equalizer.Â
Ethan Unger came close to resetting the game at 1-1 in the 49th minute before goalkeeper Naxto Faus scooped up his low-center shot. DBU's defense would keep TAMIU within striking distance until the 61st minute when Colaci returned the favor to Portales by setting him up for the 2-0 goal. The final score of the evening arrived in the 66th minute as Colaci scored off a penalty kick for the second consecutive game.
