Women's Soccer Named United Soccer Coaches Regional Staff of the Year

The United Soccer Coaches have named the DBU Women's Soccer coaching staff the 2021 Regional Staff of the Year. Head Coach Michelle Lenard's staff garners the regional honor for the third time in program history and second since 2019.

Lenard and assistant coaches Lea Sedwick, Maggie Scales, and Cory Marr have piloted DBU to its third straight Sweet 16 birth and its seventh consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Coach Lenard's staff has led the Patriots to an 18-3 overall record, tying the 2012 squad for the most wins in program history. DBU placed a league-high nine players on the 2021 All-Conference Teams while also producing the LSC's Defensive Player of the Year (Blythe Obar) and the Newcomer of the Year (Michelle Gonzalez).

The Patriots rank top 10 in the country in assists per game (2.67), points per game (9.33), scoring offense (3.33), total assists (48), and total goals (60).  Under Lenard's leadership, DBU earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA South Central Region Tournament while also placing five on the 2021 D2CAA All-Region Team.

"I am humbled and grateful for this great recognition for our staff, says Lenard." "I know how hard all of the coaches involved with our program work and I am thrilled for all of us to be chosen this year. We compete in a very difficult conference and region with many talented and hard working coaching staffs so I do not take this for granted. I feel fortunate to come to work every day with such a motivated group of people. Their character and integrity inspire me every day."

Each of the 60 (30 men's and 30 women's) staffs receiving Regional Staff of the Year honors will be recognized at the College Coaches Awards Ceremony at the United Soccer Coaches Convention on Thursday, January 20, 2022.
