Men's Cross Country Finishes Strong at South Central Championships

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Cross Country team placed 15th in the South Central Regional Championships with a score of 459, the third best score among Lone Star Conference Schools. UT Tyler just edged out the Patriots with a 14th place finish and 453 point total.

Jeb Williamson led the DBU brigade, placing 63rd at 32:17.1. Adam Whitehead was close behind, finishing 71st with a time of 32:31.3. Angel Luera snuck under the 33 minute barrier at 32:54.7 in 88th place.

Trenton Kelly (113th) and Benjamin Duong (130th) rounded out the scoring five with times of 33:38.6 and 34:17.9 respectively. Every DBU scorer ran their hardest, earning personal records for the 10K.

The longer race loomed large over the field, leveling out teams that dominated the 8K. The RMAC looked great the entire way, taking the top five spots before West Texas A&M at six. Colorado School of Mines won their third straight championship with an individual champion and all scorers in the top 15.

Though 15th place on the surface is not glorious, it is an important step in the right direction for this men's program. After a suboptimal 2019 season, where this team ended up in 19th and averaged a 34:36 race time, Coach Phillips was satisfied with his team.

JACOB PHILLIPS ON THE MEN'S RACE
"The guys have fought through so much all season. We've lost guys to injury, but it's been a next man up mentality all year. Today was no different. We had a different five score today than we did two weeks ago at conference and that's how it's been all season. Our young guys ran strong and we've got a lot of momentum to build upon."

UP NEXT
The Patriots have finished their Cross Country season, but look ahead to indoor track starting on December 4 in Pittsburg, Kansas.
