THE RUNDOWN
No. 18 DBU defeated Western New Mexico by a score of 76-58 Friday afternoon in the second to last game of the regular season. With the 18-point win, DBU (14-3, 12-3 LSC) is a game away from an undefeated home campaign, while WNMU (0-8) is teetering on the brink of a winless season. Â
Both squads were unable to do much of anything in the opening 15 minutes; points were hard to come by as turnovers and fouls killed numerous possessions and slowed the game's pace. Chandler Jacobs came alive from three-point land (3-of-3 for 12 points at the half) while the DBU defense generated 10 points down the stretch to send the Patriots into intermission with a 34-23 lead.
Jacobs led the Patriots offensively with a team-high 14 points and a 5-of-6 performance from the charity stripe. Jalen White and Ricky Lujan awoke in the second half to cement a lead that WNMU would not challenge. The duo combined for 24 points to outpace a Mustangs offense that finished with just two players in double figures. Carson Hughes rounded out double-figure scoring with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.Â

HEAD COACH BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE WIN
"It was great to get back home and play in the Burg again after our last three home games were cancelled. Our guys showed some grit today against a scrappy Western New Mexico club that never quit... We shot the ball much better today, and holding them to 36 percent shooting from the field might be our best defensive effort of the season."
