ORU Takes the Series as the Patriots Fall, 7-6 in Game Two

THE RUNDOWN
DBU (8-5) dropped the season series versus ORU (6-8) in a 7-6 game two loss on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots held a 3-2 edge through the first four frames before a disastrous fifth inning resulted in five Golden Eagle runs off Patriot errors. DBU would mount a comeback attempt with back-to-back solo blasts in the eighth and ninth innings before falling short.

Cole Moore put the Patriots up 2-0 in the second inning with a two-run blast into right field for the first home run of his Patriot career. Ray Gaither and the DBU defense would keep the ORU bats silent until the top of the fourth, as Adam Oviedo singled through the left to bring home the first run for the Golden Eagles.

George Specht would provide an insurance RBI in the bottom of the frame to score Jackson Glenn and increase the DBU lead to 3-1. The Patriots would then struggle in a snake-bitten fifth inning. ORU's Alec Jones and Anthony Martinez set the stage for disaster as Jones doubled into left field and Martinez found first off an error by Gaither. Jones would then score on another error before Oviedo returned to the plate to belt a 3 RBI shot over the left wall to give ORU the lead. A combination of Patriot relievers in Cole Reeves and Luke Trahan would try to put out the fire as the Golden Eagles finished the inning with three unearned runs.

DBU was held scoreless for the next two frames until Nico Burgarello doubled down the foul line to score Cole Moore in the top of the seventh to finally retire ORU's Tanner Rogen after six innings of work. DBU's Jackson Glenn and Christian Boulware would provide the rest of the offense with solo home runs in the eighth and ninth as the Patriots' efforts fell just one run short.
