DBU Bounces Back With Convincing Win Over Golden Eagles

THE RUNDOWN
DBU scored a season-high 17 runs en route to a 17-6 win over Oral Roberts on Sunday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.  Christian Boulware led the Patriot offensive attack with three hits including a home run and a pair of doubles to pace a 14-hit day for DBU (9-5).  Kyle Rich made the third start of his career and worked 5.2 innings and surrendered just one run to earn the win.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second, a double from Boulware scored Cole Moore all the way from first base to tie the game.  DBU and ORU (6-9) remained tied into the bottom of the fifth when a groundball double play off the bat of Andres Sosa plated the go-ahead run in the form of Boulware.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Patriots got some breathing room when Moore blasted his second home run of the series over the wall in right-center to put DBU up, 4-1.

The Golden Eagles would tack on a run in the top of the seventh, but a groundout induced by Ross Carver and strikeout halted the ORU threat and preserved a 4-2 lead.

In the Patriots' half of the seventh, DBU sent 16 batters to the plate including a stretch of 11 straight with two outs as DBU exploded for 11 runs.  River Town and Boulware each homered in the inning, while Moore, Ryan Wrobleski, Jace Grady, and Max Blessinger each drove in runs with hits as well.

DBU tacked on two more runs in the home-half of the eighth as Nico Burgarello grounded out to drive in a run and Dylan Mach ripped an RBI single into centerfield.

ORU would strike for four runs in their half of the ninth before Chandler Arnold struck out Alec Jones to close out the game.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

11 - DBU's 11-run seventh inning were the most by the Patriots since they scored 13 in the second inning at Air Force on March 24, 2019.
16 - Jackson Glenn extended his career-high hit streak to 16 games after going 2-for-4.

DBU HEAD COACH DAN HEEFNER ON RESPONDING WITH A WIN TODAY
"The last two games we didn't play complete games and we weren't real sharp so this was important for us to have a bounce back win like this.  I thought we had some outstanding at bats and the thing that I was most pleased with is that every single guy that came off the bench had a quality at bat.  They're great teammates and they stayed locked in and they were ready for their opportunity."
