THE RUNDOWN
DBU (9-6) fell in the opening game of a four-game series against Tarleton in ten innings, 5-4. The Patriots and Texans were knotted at 2-2 until the top of the tenth, when the Texans scored three runs to outlast the Patriots.
Tarleton opened the scoring in the third, bringing home a pair of runs via Colby Seltzer and Kade Turnage. The Patriots responded in the bottom of the fourth when Cole Moore took a 1-0 fastball over the wall in RCF to bring DBU within one. An inning later, the Pats drew even with Tarleton as Jace Grady brought home Andres Sosa on a sacrifice fly.
Over the next four innings, both teams would settle into a pitcher's duel. Rhett Kouba pitched 4.2 innings and gave up only one earned run. He would give way to Kragen Kechely who threw 2.2 scoreless innings of relief. Ross Carver would follow Kechely, pitching brilliantly through the ninth inning.
In the tenth, however, DBU was once again bitten by the big inning. Tarleton strung a series of hits together to produce their first run. A hard line drive knocked down by Andrew Benefield rolled far enough away to allow the runner to break for the plate. Despite a close play, Ryan Wrobleski couldn't hang onto the ball and Tarleton broke the scoreless tie. A sacrifice fly would make it 4-2, and a throwing error by the SS Glenn would spot the Texans a 5-2 lead heading to the bottom of the tenth.
In their final at bats, DBU strung together a series of four hits, including a two-run blast from Andrew Benefield to make the score 5-4. However, Austin Bell would strike out looking with the tying run just 90 feet away.
