THE RUNDOWN
The No. 3 Patriots punched their ticket to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Semifinals with a 4-0 shutout versus the University of Northwestern on Wednesday evening. With the win, DBU improves to 1-1 in tournament play following its 4-2 loss against No. 2 Campbellsville on Tuesday.
In Tuesday's match, the Patriots had to battle the Tigers as well as multiple momentum-crippling weather delays. DBU opened by capturing the doubles points as the duos of Will Fiala/Gabe Garrido and Hunter Terrell/Joshua Ramos each earned comfortable wins from the line 2 and 3 spots. However, the Tigers roared back in singles competition with wins in four of the five completed matches.Â
DBU showcased a resurgent performance in Wednesday's win over UNW as all three doubles teams swept the Eagles to snatch the early points. That momentum would lead Aaron Capone, Gabe Garrido, and Roman Hill to unchallenged wins during the singles tournament.Â
HEAD COACH WADE MORGAN ON THE TEAM'S RESPONSEÂ
"I'm proud of the guys for how they came out today after yesterday's tough circumstances with the weather delays and location changes. Tomorrow's semifinals will be tough, no question, so hopefully we can come out with fire and get to work fast."
