THE RUNDOWN
DBU dropped a volatile game three versus Bradley, 13-10, on Saturday afternoon in Horner Ballpark. With the loss, the Patriots (30-13) relinquish control of the series and will look to battle the Braves to a draw in game four later this evening. In a grueling game that lasted four hours and three minutes, DBU overcame an 0-8 deficit with an eight-run explosion across the fourth and fifth innings before a Bradley four-spot in the final inning pushed DBU back into a four run hole it would not escape. Even still, the Patriots contended until the final pitch, as Andres Sosa threatened with two runners on base and a 3-2 count on the last out.Â
Bradley struck first for the third consecutive game, this time with five runs in the second inning. What began with a single through centerfield would lead to two doubles, a pair of walks, and a hit by pitch. Jared Pettitte would enter in relief for Luke Eldred but would run into problems of his own just one inning later as Brendan Dougherty and Dan Bolt punished the Patriots with three more runs.
The fourth and fifth innings belonged to DBU, as it capitalized on back-to-back walks in both innings to jumpstart the offense. Ryan Wrobleski and River Town recorded a pair of RBIs sandwiched between a run off an error to make the game 8-3. After blanking the Braves in the top of the fifth, back-to-back doubles into the left field wall by Andrew Benefield and Blayne Jones completed the DBU comeback.Â
The Braves and the Pats each exchanged solo blasts in the seventh and eighth innings to enter the final frame tied at 9-9 before BU's Chatteron broke the game open with a three-RBI blast over right field. The scoring would conclude with a Jace Grady single that brought home River Town.Â
