THE RUNDOWN
DBU handled No. 2 seeded Indiana State, 10-1, to earn their fifth straight trip to the MVC Championship game on Sunday. The Patriots (36-15) produced plenty of offense and were treated to a dazzling performance from Luke
Eldred on the mound, who no-hit the Sycamores for 5.2 innings, en route to DBU's sixth overall trip to the conference championship game.
Jace Grady started the fireworks in the first inning when he belted his second home run of the season deep over the right field wall.
Jackson Glenn followed Grady with a two-run shot of his own in the third inning, also going over the right field fence.
In the seventh, DBU continued to add insurance runs thanks to a
Jace Grady triple and a
Cole Moore double. Glenn then homered again for his 19th long ball of the year to make it 7-1 Patriots. With the game well in hand, DBU added three more in the final frame, getting a home run from
Austin Bell and RBI hits from
Blayne Jones and
River Town to take the contest, 10-1.
On the mound,
Luke Eldred was simply electric.
Eldred set a career-high for strikeouts in a single outing, fanning 11 Sycamores over six sterling innings.
Eldred only gave up one run on one hit, a solo shot to Trees' shortstop Jordan Schaffer.
Eldred dominated all day long, missing barrels and turning in one of the best performances of his career.
