2021 SEASON NOTES
- DBU has won three titles during the 2021 season winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles, as well as the Fort Worth Regional. They are the only team in program history to accomplish that feat.

- DBU is the only team in college baseball to win 40 games or more in each of the last seven seasons (excluding the 2020 season due to COVID). The Patriots won their 40th game of the year with their win over Oregon State to clinch the Fort Worth Regional Final.

- Ryan Wrobleski was named the MVP of the Fort Worth Regional after hitting a team-best .636 (7-11) with two home runs, a double, and four RBI. He joined Christian Boulware, Andrew Benefield, and Peyton Sherlin on the All-Regional Team.

- DBU's pulled off comeback wins in both the Fort Worth Regional Final and the MVC Championship. In DBU's win over Oregon State in Fort Worth, the Patriots trailed 5-0 going to the bottom of the 6th before coming back to claim an 8-5 win. In their victory over Indiana State in the MVC title game, DBU bounced back from a 5-1 deficit going to the 5th and went on to win 12-8 in 11 innings.

- The Patriots' Jace Grady was named the MVC Tournament MVP after hitting .412 (7-for-17) with three home runs, a double, a triple, and eight RBI.  Grady had one home run entering the tournament before hitting one against Indiana State in DBU's third game and two in the championship game against the Sycamores.

- DBU's Jackson Glenn was named the Joe Carter Player of the Year in the MVC after hitting a team-best .364 and leading the league in home runs (19) and slugging % (.738). Glenn becomes the third Patriot to be tabbed the top player in the MVC joining Darick Hall (2016) and Devlin Granberg (2018).

- Dan Heefner was named the Dan Callahan Coach of the Year in the MVC for the second time in his career after leading DBU to a regular-season title in 2021. Heefner was also tabbed the league's Coach of the Year in 2016. Heefner boasts a .661 career win % which ranks 10th-best among active NCAA Division I coaches.

DBU IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
- 10 years after DBU won the 2011 Fort Worth Regional, the Patriots clinched the 2021 Fort Worth Regional to send DBU to their second trip to the Super Regionals in school history. DBU's win over Oregon State on June 7 came 10 years and one day after their regional title win over Oral Roberts on June 6, 2011, at Lupton Stadium.

- With DBU's trip to the postseason in 2021, DBU is making their seventh consecutive trip to the NCAA Regionals (excluding the 2020 canceled season). The Patriots are just one of six teams in the country to reach the postseason each year since 2014 joining the likes of Florida, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma State, and Vanderbilt.

- DBU joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 2004 and became eligible for the postseason in 2006. During that 15-year span (excluding the 2020 season due to COVID), the Patriots have reached the NCAA Regionals 10 times beginning with their first trip in 2008.

- The Patriots have reached the finals in each of their last six trips to the NCAA Regionals beginning with the 2015 Dallas Regional. DBU also reached the finals of the Fort Worth Regional (2017 and 2021), the Lubbock Regional (2016 and 2019), as well as the 2018 Fayetteville Regional.

- The only other time DBU reached the field of 16 came when the Patriots faced the Cal Bears in the 2011 Santa Clara Super Regionals. DBU dropped both games to Cal, ending their dream season just two wins shy of reaching the College World Series.

- DBU will face Virginia for the second time in the postseason. In 2017, the Patriots and Cavaliers met in the Fort Worth Regional. After dropping their first game to the Cavaliers, 6-3, DBU bounced back to eliminate Virginia, 11-8. With the win, the Patriots reached the finals against TCU.

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS

- The Cavs are 33-24 in 2021 and were champions of the Columbia Regional after knocking off host Old Dominion in back-to-back games.

- Virginia closed the season strong, going 7-3 in their final ten regular season games. They compiled impressive wins over future ACC Tournament champion Duke, Liberty, and Wake Forrest before heading into the postseason.

- The Cavs were 2-0 in the conference tournament, including a 14-1 blasting of No. 7 Notre Dame before being eliminated by Duke.

- Virginia has won four in a row after losing their opening game of the Columbia Regional to South Carolina. The Cavs then beat Jacksonville, South Carolina, and ODU twice to advance to this weekend.

- LHP Andrew Abbot was named as one of the 25 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award after a season where he ranked third in the country in Ks with 144.

- UVA reliever Blake Bales is one of 10 finalists for the NCBWA Stopper of the year award, presented to the nation's top relief pitcher. He is the first Cavaliers finalist for the award since 2011.

- Freshman Kyle Teel was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Freshman All-American team as the DH. He sports a .321 average heading into the Super Regional.

- Virginia will be making their seventh appearance in the Super Regional and their first since 2015.
