THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Patriots continue their winning ways after upsetting No. 6 TCU on Saturday night, 8-6, in dramatic fashion. Trailing 6-2, the Patriots reeled off five straight runs in the seventh to pull off a remarkable comeback. With the win, DBU (39-15) punches their sixth straight ticket to a Regional Final.
DBU has created a habit of scoring first in ballgames, and it was no different on Saturday night as Ryan Wrobleski singled up the middle in the second to drive in the first run of the game. He was quickly followed by River Town who doubled home another run.
It remained 2-0 Patriots until the fourth inning when TCU struck back with a three-run blast over the left field wall. TCU would add one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to put the Patriots behind 6-2.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Austin Bell began the comeback rally with a lead-off walk. Following a Jackson Glenn single and a walk to Jace Grady, George Specht reached on what was ruled an error by the third baseman, allowing the first run to score. Andrew Benefield then singled back up the middle to bring the Patriots within two of the lead. With the bases loaded, Christian Boulware pummeled a ball to the wall in center field, clearing the bases and giving DBU the lead once again.
In the bottom of the eighth, Jace Grady would help drive in the final run of the game to give DBU an 8-6 lead going to the ninth.Â
On the mound, the Patriots saw several gutsy performances. Rhett Kouba got the start and went a season high 108 pitches through 6.1 innings. Chandler Arnold came out of the pen to through two-thirds of an inning and would end up earning the win.
The most electric scene on the mound, however, came in the form of Peyton Sherlin. Sherlin pitched the final two innings, slamming the door on TCU by striking out four and earning his fourth save of the year. Sherlin's two perfect innings closed out a memorable victory for DBU and earned them a bid in the Ft. Worth Regional Final on Sunday night.
THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- With the win, DBU is now just one victory shy of 40 on the season. The Patriots have a chance to reach that mark for the sixth consecutive year and were one of just three teams in the country to have said chance. DBU could be the only team remaining with that accomplishment considering that Louisville did not make the postseason and Florida State would have to reach Omaha to continue their run.
- DBU has now reached a Regional Final for the sixth consecutive year, a historic mark for the program.
- The Patriots are now 2-1 against TCU all-time in the postseason.

CHRISTIAN BOULWARE ON THE COMEBACK:
"Our dugout is awesome. We are never out of a game. Coach Heefner told us, 'You have nine outs to make this happen.' Early on in my at bat, I was just trying to get a pitch I could hit. I knew he had to come at me with a fastball and he did. I was just able to get my barrel to it. Everyone is so prepared on our team and that was big time."
