Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DBU Edged by UT Tyler, 1-0 in Season Opener

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team fell to UT Tyler 1-0 on the road in Wednesday night's season opener. UTT's (2-0-1) Jack Simonini would find the lower-left portion of the net to deliver the go-ahead score just nine minutes into the match.

Each goalkeeper would face six shots in the first half of action. But it was UT Tyler that made the most of its offensive opportunities, landing four of them on frame after grabbing the early 1-0 lead.

The defense buckled down in the second half, as Alexander Knepper recorded three saves against a UTT offense that outshot DBU 15-11. Ethan Unger and Payton Franklin would give the Patriots quality looks in the final 20 minutes as DBU challenged UTT goalkeeper Mathias Eriksen three more times.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-The Patriots of UTT now lead the all-time series 3-1 over the Patriots of DBU.
-A single goal has decided the last two meetings between these squads. The last multi-goal game in this series took place in 2019, when DBU won 4-0.
- The Patriots return home to host three of their next four games.

COACH JESS JOBE ON THE GAME
"There are a few things to tidy up and learn from. I think we need to start games with the right mentality and focus. We showed we're capable of doing that by the way we responded in the second half...We'll look back at this game and find ways we can improve...We are on the right trajectory, and we just need the players to continue getting comfortable with each other and what we are trying to do here."
