THE RUNDOWN

The DBU defense was challenged early and often but refused to surrender a goal. Knepper finished the afternoon with five saves as the Patriots backline, spearheaded by Sergio Garrido, recorded two more team saves in an outstanding defensive performance.Â
The scoreboard finally lit up in the 60th minute when Christian Naizer opened the 2021 scoring tally off beautiful ball movement from Ethan Unger and Peyton Voelker. The DBU offense refused to take its foot off the gas after securing the 1-0 lead, as 2020 All-Lone Star Conference selection Emmanuel Loni delivered the final goal off a beautiful stutter step in the final five minutes.

COACH JESS JOBE ON THE WIN
"We couldn't be happier about this result. We feel like the players deserved it, and we've been working very hard... I felt like we had a good game plan going in, and I am proud of the players for implementing it. There were a couple moments that could have changed the game, one of them came in the first half when Knepper [Alexander Knepper] made a couple of fantastic saves. The game could have shifted very easily at that point, but he helped us maintain our lead... Really hard work behind the ball and really hard work from our defense.
