Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DBU Outlasts St. Mary's in Overtime, 2-1

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team earned a 2-1 overtime win over St. Mary's (4-3) Saturday evening in San Antonio, Texas. In the 98th minute, Mason Wallak skipped a pass to Ethan Unger for the walk-off goal to give the Patriots (2-1) their second consecutive victory.

The Rattlers were the first to enter the scoring column, pushing a goal across in the 26th minute to take the 1-0 lead. DBU, however, would withstand the rest of St. Mary's attacks and continue to hunt for opportunities. The Patriots would tie the game on their second shot attempt of the second half, as Ethan Unger slid a pass to Emmanuel Loni in the 54th minute. Loni then set his feet and delivered a 20-yard strike into the lower right corner of the Rattlers' net.

Neither squad could find the go-ahead goal in the closing minutes of regulation. DBU's Alexander Knepper would swat away a free-kick in the final 10 seconds to preserve the match and send it to overtime.

A second overtime loomed over the pitch as both teams battled through exhaustion in the bonus period. Finally, with two minutes remaining, Wallak connected with Unger through a gap in St. Mary's backline as Unger beat the final defender to deliver the 2-1 win.

COACH JESS JOBE ON THE WIN
"We are so proud as a coaching staff of the way we climbed back into a really difficult game. St. Mary's is a tough team to beat, espesically at home. I am proud of how we stuck with the game plan and continued to believe. Our players deserve to believe we can play with anybody in the conference... I'm really happy and am going to enjoy this one."
