No. 7 DBU Begins Season with a 2-1 Win Over No. 10 Central Oklahoma

THE RUNDOWN
No. 7 DBU ushered in the fall season with a 2-1 win over No. 10 Central Oklahoma Thursday night on Patriot Field. DBU rallied in the final six minutes to score two goals against a previously unrelenting Bronchos defense. The go-ahead goal was delivered off the foot of sophomore Madison Parks in her first-ever game as a Patriot.

UCO's Eden Jones found the back of the net just three minutes into the game. From that point, the DBU defense buckled down and the offense eventually broke through against the Bronchos' defense and goalkeeper Kaitlyn Asher, who kept the Patriots scoreless through the first 83 minutes.

Blythe Obar, the reigning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year, along with freshman Rachel Allen, who made her Patriot debut on Thursday, stymied the Bronchos offensive attack from their center back positions.  Obar also earned her first-ever assist off a goal by Schmidt in the 84th minute that erased DBU's deficit. There was no containing the Patriots from that point, as Schmidt would set up Parks for the game-winning goal just minutes later.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-DBU has now won two of its last three contests versus Oklahoma Christian.

-Schmidt moves into a tie with Lindsay McManus (78) for the ninth-most starts in school history.

-No. 7 DBU has two top-25 opponents remaining on its nonconference schedule in No. 15 Oklahoma Baptist and No. 18 UC Colorado Springs.

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE PATRIOTS WIN
"Honestly, I thought we came out to a great start... We knew they would be a very dangerous counter-attacking team.... We felt confident that a goal was going to come to us eventually if we stayed with it and kept coming. Several players came off the bench and made a difference, and in a hard-fought game like this, that is absolutely necessary.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
32 – Delaney Schmidt's goal was the 32nd of her career, moving her to within two of tying Lea Sedwick for fourth all-time in program history.

6-4
- DBU edged UCO in corner kicks 6-4.

13 (8)
- Eight of the Patriots' 13 shots were on target versus the Bronchos.
