Second Half Surge Lifts No. 12 DBU to 3-0 Win Over UT Tyler

THE RUNDOWN
No. 12 DBU (7-1, 3-0) won for the fifth consecutive time after a 3-0 win over UT Tyler (3-3, 1-2) in Tyler, Texas, on Wednesday evening.  Scoreless through the first 48 minutes of action, the Patriots netted three goals from three different players including Ashley Merrill, Delaney Schmidt, and Michelle Gonzalez (Marta) to improve to 3-0 in Lone Star Conference action.

The Patriots broke the tie in the 49th minute when Merrill scored the game's first goal with the assist coming from Jenna Patterson.  Just a little over five minutes later, Delaney Schmidt increased DBU's lead to two goals when she found the back of the net on a pass from Abigail Olmos.  With 10 minutes remaining, Annie Severide found an open Michelle Gonzalez (Marta) for an insurance goal, giving DBU a commanding 3-0 advantage.

Defensively, DBU hounded UT Tyler, limiting them to just four shots with all four shots coming on frame against Hailey Brown.  The shutout for Brown was her third of the season.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
-Since falling to UC Colorado Springs on September 8, DBU has won five straight and outscored their opponents 19-6 over that stretch.
-The Patriots remain undefeated in Lone Star Conference play since they joined the LSC in 2019, going 20-0-2 in their 22 contests.
-DBU completes a two-game road trip with wins over LSC foes West Texas A&M and UT Tyler.

COACH MICHELLE LENARD ON THE STRONG SECOND HALF
"It took us a while to get going tonight, but we made some adjustments to our play in the second half and scored three great goals.  We continue to get great leadership from our upperclassmen when we need them most.  Abby and Jenna were real difference makers in the second half and Delaney, Marta, and Ashley scored three very good goals.  I'd like to see us play like that from the start, but we got the job done in the second half."
