No. 1 Patriots Fall on the Road to No. 24 ASU, 2-0

THE RUNDOWN
No. 1 DBU lost for the first time this year, falling 2-0 at Angelo State on Saturday. Goals late in the first and second half led the No. 24 Rambelles past the Patriots (7-1-1, 3-1-1 LSC) in what's becoming one of the most competitive rivalries in the Lone Star Conference. With the win, ASU (10-1-1, 5-1 LSC) bounces back after falling to UT Permian Basin on Wednesday, and DBU drops its second regular season match in confernce play since 2019.

Both goalkeepers were active throughout the first half as the two sides traded punches in search of an edge. But with two seconds remaining in the half, the Rambelles landed a blow that the Patriots failed to find an answer for. ASU's Hadley Coronado received the ball at the top of the box and pushed through a pair of Patriots before blasting a left-footed dart that barely escaped a help defender and flew into the top-right corner of the net.

Trailing 1-0, DBU came out swinging to begin the second half. Angelina Olmos and Annie Severide fired off a barrage of shots in the 47th minute that veteran goalkeeper Kira Miller kept at bay. Miller would end the day with a season-high five saves as the Patriots made camp in the attacking third for much of the half. With nine minutes left in the contest, Angelo State dug deep and mustered another late goal that completely emptied the air from DBU's sails. Senior midfielder Mia Czarnecki clocked her first goal of the season when she fired a strike toward the top of the net that careened back off the hands of Adriana Schroeder and into the goal.
