Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 1 DBU Rallies Past No. 23 Midwestern State for Lone Star Conference Crown

THE RUNDOWN
The top-ranked DBU Women's Soccer locked up the Lone Star Conference regular season title Tuesday night with a 4-2 road win over No. 23 Midwestern State at Stang Park in Wichita Falls, Texas. Sophomore forward Riley Olsen's go-ahead goal in the 65th minute broke a 2-2 tie and proved to be the game-winner. The victory earns the Patriots the right to host the LSC Semifinals and Championship at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas.

In a showdown between the league's top two teams, Midwestern State struck first, with Sloan Sullivan scoring just 54 seconds in. DBU answered in the 11th minute on a lightning-quick counter, as Leah Hurley lofted a pass to a streaking Kylar Coffman, who beat MSU goalkeeper Lauren Short one-on-one and tucked the ball into the bottom left corner.

The Mustangs retook the lead in the 24th minute on a goal from Sophie Ferro. The Patriots quickly leveled it again when Skylar Belanger rose to meet a Kylar Coffman cross from the right side of the box and headed it home.

Still tied 2-2 twenty minutes into the second half, Ashley Washburn sprinted up the right channel and found Olsen, whose right-footed one-timer found the bottom left corner to give DBU its first lead.

The Patriots sealed the game with just over five minutes remaining, as Belanger scored her second of the match, again set up by Washburn.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- DBU clinches its seventh LSC regular season title since joining the league in 2019.
- Sophomore midfielder Skylar Belanger recorded the first brace of her career.
- The Patriots ended Midwestern State's 29-game home win streak, which dated back to October 21, 2023.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
42 - Ashley Washburn's 42nd point of the season ties Danielle Presley for the most points in a single season in program history.
16 - Washburn's 16th assist of the year leaves her two shy of breaking Taylor Tufts' school record of 17, set in 2023.
90 - Josie Juvera, Hannah Montoya, Kenzi Tufts, and Tyler Weaver each played all 90 minutes.

DBU HEAD COACH MARCUS WOOD ON WINNING THE LSC TITLE
"It is rare for a regular season championship to come down to the last game of the year. The game lived up to the billing. We give God the glory when things don't go our way and the Patriots give God the glory when things come together. This was a very special collective performance."
