THE RUNDOWN
DBU took game one of Sunday's doubleheader with Sam Houston, 3-2. A two-run blast from
George Specht in the sixth inning gave the Patriots (3-3) the breathing room they needed to top the Bearkats (4-3) and clinch the series.
Chandler Arnold made his second start of the season and recorded eight strikeouts through 4.0 innings of work.
Sam Houston threatened to force a rubber match in the final frame of the seven-inning contest. A Justin Wishkoski RBI single cut DBU's lead to one, and a passed ball brought the go-ahead run into scoring possession before
Luke Trahan shut the door on the Bearkats for his second career save.
Much like Friday's contest, offense was hard to come by in a game controlled early on by the starting pitchers. The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when
Nathan Humphreys knocked in
Miguel Santos, who notched his eighth hit of the year after doubling down down the right-field line.
Sam Houston rallied in their half of the third and finally pushed a run across against
Chandler Arnold, who started the day on a blistering pace and mowed down five Bearkats through the first two innings.
The bats were quiet for both teams until
George Specht's big fly in the sixth. The junior clobbered his second long ball of the season out of right-center field to score himself and
Cole Moore.
Bubba Hall carded two punchouts in relief of Arnold before exiting the game for
Luke Trahan who carded a strikeout and left two stranded to close the game.
