THE RUNDOWN
DBU completed a sweep of Saturday's doubleheader against Southern Mississippi with a 2-0 win over the Golden Eagles at Horner Ballpark.  Redshirt-senior right-hander Luke Eldred shutout Southern Miss (10-5) in a season-high 7.0 innings of work to earn his second win of the year.

In a pitcher's duel between Eldred and the Golden Eagles' Hunter Riggins, the game remained scoreless into the bottom of the fifth before DBU (8-6) struck first.  With two out and nobody on, Andrew Benefield stroked a two-strike pitch to right field to extend the inning.  Jaxon Holder followed with a booming double to left-center on a 2-2 offering from Riggins, scoring Benefield all the way from first.

The Patriots would carry a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth when DBU added an insurance run.  With Jace Grady at second base and two out, Miguel Santos hit the first pitch he saw the opposite way down the right field line for his first career triple and scored Grady to extend DBU's lead to 2-0.

Brady Rose, who had come on in relief of Eldred in the eighth, retired the side in order in the top of the ninth to record his first career save.
