Patriots Shutout Ouachita Baptist to Earn First Win

THE RUNDOWN
The DBU Men's Soccer team earned their first win of 2022 with a dominant 3-0 win over Ouachita Baptist on Saturday at Patriot Soccer Field. In a match that was controlled on DBU's attacking end of the pitch, three different Patriots registered goals including Peyton Voelker, Marshall Dickson, and Ethan Unger. In the one-sided contest, DBU (1-1-3) took 28 shots on the day while holding Ouachita (0-3-3) to just two shots as the Patriots recorded their second clean sheet of the season.

DBU's first goal came in the eighth minute of the first half when Voelker struck with his team-leading second goal of the year, a right-footed shot that went past OBU goalkeeper Dillon Staal and into the right corner of the net.

DBU would strike again when Marshall Dickson delivered his first career goal as a Patriot in the 24th minute of the first half. In a half that was controlled by DBU on the offensive end combined with a strong effort from the Patriots' back line, DBU carried the momentum into the final 45 minutes.

Leading 2-0 with just over 20 minutes remaining, Ethan Unger ripped a shot from just outside the top of the 18-yard box for his first goal of the year.

In a game that turned physical in the second half, OBU was issued five yellow cards on the day, including a pair of red cards and ejections.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The win marks the first for DBU in the history of their series against Ouachita that dates back to 2013.
- Three Patriots made their first career starts including Leo Larson, Mason Monroe, and Zach Paclibar.
- DBU's three goals matched their season total for goals and was the most goals scored in a match since they scored three against Oklahoma Christian on October 27, 2021.
