THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (9-2) defeated Texas Permian Basin (5-6), 3-1, at The Burg Center on Saturday night. With the win, DBU finished the weekend undefeated at the Lone Star Conference Crossover.Â
Â
UTPB was looking to climb above .500 early, taking a 5-2 lead. DBU flipped the script in a hurry with 6 consecutive points to go up, 8-5. Four blocks from the Lady Patriots in the frame provided a spark, and DBU ran with it, all the way to a first set win.
Â
After allowing the Lady Patriots to score the first 3 points of the second set, the Falcons came back with a vengeance, gaining a 5-point margin, 14-9.
Jordan Fish called a timeout that initiated a 5-0 run by DBU to tie the game. UTPB took the advantage back, 18-15, but only for a moment, as the Lady Patriots knotted the game at 18 and clawed their way to stealing the second set.
Â
DBU kept the momentum in third frame and held a slim margin, 11-9. The Falcons came back to play spoiler and plundered a 6-point lead of their own, 21-15. The Lady Patriots returned the favor and tied the game at 23 but couldn't hold on, so UTPB walked away with set three.
Â
The Lady Patriots, frustrated with letting the third frame slip away, changed their fortune quickly. Through the first three sets, the Lady Patriots hadn't eclipsed a hitting percentage above .220, but they caught fire in the fourth with a .321 mark. DBU never trailed and led by as many as seven as they waltzed to their seventh consecutive victory.
