DBU's 7-Game Win Streak Snapped by No. 17 West Texas A&M in LSC Opener

THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (9-3, 0-1) dropped a four-set match to the No. 17 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M (8-4, 1-0) on the road to open conference play. The loss breaks a 7-game winning streak for DBU.

The first set was about as back-and-forth as it gets. In a set consisting of 12 ties and 8 lead changes, neither team led by more than 3 points. Both teams spread the wealth offensively, as 4 Lady Patriots and 5 Lady Buffs registered multiple kills, but DBU prevailed to take set one, 25-22.

Both teams kept their pace from the first frame. The Lady Patriots took an early 7-6 lead, but West Texas A&M sprinted on a 15-3 run to pull ahead, 21-10. DBU couldn't find a comeback and surrendered the second set, 25-14.

The Lady Buffs maintained control in set three, winning the first 7 points. The Lady Patriots offense struggled, hitting only .062 in the set. Torrey Miller's 8 kills provided the offensive spark for West Texas A&M, and the Lady Buffs won the frame.

DBU challenged but never truly found a rhythm in set four. The Lady Patriots sole lead in the set was due to winning the first point. AJ Koele provided some hope on offense for DBU, smashing 8 kills, but they were not enough to stop the train of West Texas A&M.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Emily Van Slate appeared in her first match since August 27 vs. Barry on Friday night. She had 8 kills and 12 digs.
- With 18 kills, AJ Koele has now hit 11 or more kills in every match but one this season (September 3 vs. Wilmington).
- Delaney Fuller's 4th-set ace extends DBU's streak of recording at least 1 ace in each match to 14 consecutive matches, a stretch that dates back to last season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
.182 - The Lady Patriots hit only .182 on Friday, their worst offensive output since hitting .113 against Barry on August 27.
.265 - DBU allowed West Texas A&M to hit .265, the highest mark conceded by the Lady Patriots all season.
10 - Three Lady Patriots recorded double-digit digs (Lauryn Burt, Delaney Fuller, and Emily Van Slate).
