THE RUNDOWN
The Lady Patriots (10-3, 1-1) claimed their 10th win of the year on the road by sweeping the Cameron Aggies (5-9, 0-2).
Emily Van Slate led the offensive charge for DBU, earning 13 kills on .591 hitting.
Â
DBU came out with guns blazing. After falling behind, 3-4, the Lady Patriots went on an 11-1 run to take a 14-5 lead. DBU had one if its most efficient sets of 2022, hitting .382 with 15 kills and only 2 errors, and waltzed into the 2nd set with the set count in its favor.
Â
The Lady Patriots kept the momentum from the first set and didn't trail after a 1-1 tie in set two. Cameron narrowed its deficit to two, 6-4, but the Lady Patriots responded by winning 5 consecutive points, extending their lead to 7. DBU later went on another 5-0 run to make the score 18-7 and claimed the set thanks to 5 players with multiple kills in the frame (
AJ Koele,
Lindsey Otero,
Abby Phillips,
Shaylee Shore, and Van Slate).
Â
The Aggies took an early 5-4 lead in the third, but DBU found another run, securing 12 of the next 14 rallies. The Lady Patriots were hot behind the service line and nailed six aces in the set. Ultimately, the DBU offense was too much to handle, and the Lady Patriots swept the Aggies to even their conference record at 1-1.
