THE RUNDOWN
DBU suffered a gut-wrenching loss to UT Permian Basin Saturday night, 3-2. The Patriots held a 2-1 advantage in the 88th minute before the Falcons ripped away the win with two goals in the last 100 seconds. The last-minute win lifts the Falcons to a 2-1-2 overall record and sends the Patriots down to 1-3-4 to end nonconference play.Â
DBU looked well on its way to victory when
Ethan Unger delivered a 2-1 lead off a penalty kick in the 79th minute. That victory was downgraded to a tie as UTPB's leading scorer, Gustavo Barroso, found the back of the net in the 88th minute. But as the final buzzer sounded over UTPB Soccer Field, freshman Gabriel Nevarez found the go-ahead goal on a long pass from goalkeeper Kristian Hovind.Â
DBU found its offense off an overly physical UTPB squad that was issued four yellow cards and 18 fouls on Saturday night, scoring both of its goals off penalty kicks. The Patriots jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a
Peyton Voelker penalty kick in the 13th minute before retaking control at the 79-minute mark on a set piece from
Ethan Unger.Â
