Kahn Garners 3rd Double-Double, DBU Drops Late Lead to LCU, 73-69

THE RUNDOWN
The Patriots (10-10, 5-7 LSC) dropped another close game on Saturday afternoon as the Chaps of Lubbock Christian (12-6, 7-4 LSC) took the affair, 73-69. The loss extends DBU' losing streak to five, its longest since the 2014-15 season.

After an 11-10 start to the game, the DBU offense went cold. Over a nearly 8-minute stretch, the Chaps held DBU to only 6 points while scoring 15 of their own to take a 25-17 lead. LCU kept the momentum going, stretching the margin to 17 with 3:30 until the break, but a late surge initiated by a Cameron Kahn layup narrowed the gap in a hurry, keeping the Patriots within 10 at the break.

The last-minute spring by DBU carried over into the second half. It took the Patriots only five and a half minutes to tie the game and six to take the lead, courtesy of a pair of free throws from Ta'Jay Dunlap.

The rest of the match was very back-and-forth. Neither team led by more than four until Kahn knocked in a pair of free throws to give DBU a six-point advantage, its largest of the game, with 3:46 remaining. The Chaps quickly pieced together a 10-0 run that proved to be the difference maker as the Patriots failed to make shot in the final 3 minutes.

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

- For only the 2nd time in the 2022-23 campaign. DBU forced less than 10 turnovers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
3 - Three Patriots (Ta'Jay Dunlap, Carson Hughes, and Jalen White) hit a trio of three-point field goals.
11 - Dunlap, Hughes, Kahn, and Ricky Lujan each scored at least 11 points.
50 - DBU has converted at least 50% of its field goal attempts in back-to-back games for the 2nd time this season.

BLAKE FLICKNER ON THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO HALVES
"The first half, we really struggled to get any stops, and early in the second half we got a few. And that allowed us to crawl back in the game. And then we just didn't get them down the stretch."

UP NEXT
The Patriots continue their four-game homestand on Thursday against Oklahoma Christian. Tip-off is at 7:00 pm in the Burg.
