THE RUNDOWN
In a scrappy game on the road, DBU (14-13, 9-10 LSC) fell to No. 24 Angelo State (21-5, 17-3 LSC), 57-71. The loss moves the Patriots one slot out of the eighth and final slot of the LSC Tournament.
Â
The lead was exchanged multiple times to start the first half. Just inside the 9:00 mark, DBU pieced together an 8-2 run to take an 18-15 advantage, but Angelo State responded with a 9-2 stretch of its own to move back ahead, 27-20. With the game starting to slip away,
Ricky Lujan trailblazed a scoring stint for the Patriots, scoring four points and grabbing a pair of rebounds in the closing 4:22 of the first half.
Â
Ahead by only a point, the Rams answered a quick layup by
Cameron Kahn with a 6-0 run to start the second frame. Slowly but surely, Angelo State fought to make the difference as many 14, in part due to DBU's 14 turnovers in the half. Despite the efforts Cam Kahn (16 points in the 2nd half), the Patriots were unable to pull off an upset of the No. 24 team in the nation.
