Late Three-Pointer Sinks DBU in 66-63 Loss at St. Edward's

THE RUNDOWN
A three-point shot from St. Edward's Gavino Ramos with 1.2 seconds handed DBU a 66-63 defeat and ended the Patriots' three-game win streak on Monday in Austin, Texas. Three Patriots scored in double-figures in the loss headlined by Austin Garner's 16-point performance.

In a back-and-forth slugfest from the opening tip, DBU (13-11, 8-8) and St. Edward's (18-7, 12-4) exchanged the lead 15 times in a game that came down to the wire. Leading by seven points at the half, the Patriots quickly saw their lead evaporate when the Hilltoppers' Uche Dimiamaka drained a three-pointer to put St. Edward's on top, 39-38, with 15:46 left to play.

Trailing by four with inside three minutes on the clock, a Ricky Lujan fastbreak layup and an Austin Garner drive through the lane for a bucket pulled the Patriots even at 59 apiece. DBU would once again find themselves down by two points at 63-61 when Carson Hughes connected on both free throws to tie the game with 49 seconds remaining in regulation.

A turnover by the Patriots led to the game-wining points as Ramos' delivered his knockout shot with 1.2 seconds. It was the 18th-point for Ramos who led all scorers in the game.

A last second heave from inside half court from Carson Hughes sailed wide of the basket, handing DBU their second loss to St. Edward's this season.
