THE RUNDOWN
The DBU bats struggled to produce runs on Sunday as the Patriots (16-8, 4-2) fell to Charlotte (10-13, 3-3), 8-1, on Sunday at Hayes Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was just the second time this season that DBU walked more opposing hitters (10) than they struck out (9).
Â
Blake Jackson walked to lead off the bottom of the first for the 49ers. After a subsequent Cam Fisher single and a Jack Dragum walk to load the bases, Jackson and Fisher came around to score on a base hit by Dante DeFranco.
Â
Down, 2-0, after one inning of play,
Noah Boughton provided a quick spark for his squad with a leadoff homer to start the second inning. It would be the lone run scored by DBU.
Â
Zeros lined the scoreboard until the bottom of the sixth when the floodgates open in favor of Charlotte. The 49ers sent 11 batters to the plate in a six-run frame with no extra-base hits, four singles, three walks, and a hit batter.
Â
49ers starter Cameron Hansen had a stellar showing for Charlotte, going 8.0 innings with one run allowed, eight strikeouts, and two walks.
Â
Evan Michelson relieved Hansen in the ninth and gave up a single to the second hitter,
Miguel Santos, but a
Nate Rombach grounder to the shortstop turned into a double play to end the game.
