THE RUNDOWN 
DBU Women's Soccer's Lone Star Conference opener ended in a 2-0 win over UT Permian Basin at Patriot Field on Saturday. DBU took 24 shots and prevented the Falcons from making any attempts in a dominant defensive effort.  

The Patriots struck first when Sophia Schrock headed in a cross from Taylor Tufts in the 7th minute for her second goal of the season to put DBU up 1-0. The Falcon's strong defense prevented the Patriots from scoring again in the first half, but DBU's defense answered that call by not allowing any shot attempts to be made by UTPB.  

In the second half, possession was kept mostly on DBU's attacking half with a total of 15 shots attempts. UTPB's freshman goalkeeper Valeria Delgado was able to save all but one. Following a handball call on the Falcons, "Marta"  Michelle Gonzalez's penalty kick found the back of the net in the 88th minute bringing the final score to 2-0 for the Patriot's first conference game. 

THREE THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW  

• DBU outshot the Falcons 24-0 and has allowed just one shot by their opponents in two games.  

• This game marks the first time since November 6, 2021 that DBU has not allowed a shot by their opponents in a game. That shotless game was also against UTPB. 

• Marta leads the Patriots in goals this season, contributing 4 of their 17-goal total.

• The Patriots have earned 16 straight home wins.  

• DBU took a season-high of 13 corners against UTPB.
