Old Glory Gallop Team Finish 3rd Place

Salas Secures the Cowgirl Crown as DBU places Third

RESULTS

THE RUNDOWN

The Lady Patriots placed third overall at the 3rd Annual Old Glory Gallop behind an impressive performance by Lesli Salas, galloping into history by winning the meet with a time of 17:06.  Rice University took home the Old Glory Gallop belt buckle with a dominant first-place team finish, scoring 31 points.  The Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona secured second place with 102 points.

Dawning the Cowgirl Crown for the second straight year was sophomore Lesli Salas, completing the 5k course in 17:06, a new Old Glory Gallop record.  Megan Williamson snuck into the top 10 with her ninth-place finish at 17:35, followed by Jenna Howard slotting in 18th with a time of 18:05.  Fourth across the line for DBU was Emily Cole at 18:32, in front of Makayla Stephens running the 5k in 18:43.

It was an exciting performance from Salas to secure the meet victory, but a team loss to Rice and more importantly to Cal Poly Pomona is a heavy damper.  The Broncos did exactly what they needed to do, bolstering their resume with an out-of-region win.  With just two total votes in last week's national poll, Pomona is certain to jump up the rankings and will now sit in front of DBU in the at-large national bid queue.  The Lady Patriots could be at the mercy of the West Region, so they will need Pomona to pick up big wins at the California Collegiate Athletics Association Championships and the West Regional Championships.
