No. 8 Patriots Clobber Mississippi College on Homecoming Night

THE RUNDOWN

The No. 8 ranked Patriots forcefully took down Mississippi College Saturday night at The Burg Center, more than doubling the opposition's point total (109-45). The DBU offense was amplified by a barrage of threes tonight, highlighted by Trevor Frank's six. Complimenting Frank, the Patriots posted a 66.7% 3-point shooting percentage as a team, their highest clip of the season. Frank's 24 points off the bench this evening was one off of his career high, and led all Patriots to a win on homecoming night.

The Patriot faithful provided an energetic, loud environment from tip to final buzzer. However, no play received more loud of a crowd pop than the first basket of the game. Less than a minute in, Ricky Lujan connected with Xavion Brown for an alley-oop slam to open the scoring. Mississippi College would be forced to take a timeout before two minutes were played. This was in response to the DBU defense forcing two shot clock violations, with a Drew Calderon block mixed in. The Pats would ride this momentum for 40 minutes leading to a blowout win.

Pinches of program history were made in tonight's contest, as Ricky Lujan and Cameron Kahn eclipsed milestones on school leaderboards. With Lujan's second assist of the night, a second alley-oop to Xavion Brown, he passed Shelby Lewis for fourth in assists all-time in DBU history. A little over three minutes into the second half, Cameron Kahn sunk a jumper from the paint to propel him over Jordan McGowan and into fourth all-time in points in program history.

Jackson McCabe was the only Patriot to eclipse double-digit rebounds, in a game where nobody else on the floor had more than seven. Xavion Brown's nine assists tonight were enough to lead everyone on the floor. The Patriot defense forced 30 turnovers in a game where they only surrendered 14. Trevor Frank, further stamping his name all over this contest, led the Pats with three steals. Five others would swipe two steals on the Patriot's side.
