THE RUNDOWN
DBU basketball (7-1) claimed victory over the Oklahoma Baptist Bison (3-2) in a thriller that came down to the final second. Trevor Frank and Cameron Kahn led everyone on the floor in scoring, with 24 and 22 respectively. Frank, a sophomore, records back-to-back 20+ point games for the first time in his young career. Kahn sank the game-winning layup with under a second remaining, off a beautiful lob assist from Ricky Lujan.
Even though DBU led for 33:45 of tonight's contest, the Bison were breathing down the Pats' necks the entire evening. OBU was able to stay in the game for all forty minutes, partly because the Bison were more efficient from the field (51.6%) than the Pats (45.1%). OBU began the second half with a 10-0 run and led by as much as five before the Patriots clawed back and wouldn't let go of the lead the rest of the night. Cody Stevens took the liberty of draining the go-ahead bucket to retake said lead.
DBU's 11 offensive rebounds in the second half were a major contributor to holding onto their late advantage. Coming into the night, DBU was ranked 2nd in the LSC in offensive rebounds per game. Xavion Brown led the team in second-half rebounds with six, after not bringing down a single board in the first half. Cameron Kahn led everyone on the floor with 16 second-half points, shooting 70% from the field in the final 20 minutes. The DBU defense forced six turnovers in the second half, which led to ten points off of turnovers in the final frame.Â
Tonight, Ricky Lujan posted his first double-double of the 24-25 campaign, posting 13 points and dishing out ten assists all while leading the Patriots in minutes (31). Trevor Frank's numbers this evening mirror his performance from last time out nearly perfectly. For two consecutive games, Frank has scored exactly 24 points (one off his career high of 25), with six three-pointers to his name. Frank was also perfect from the charity stripe, knocking down all four free throws.
