THE RUNDOWN
No. 13 DBU used a 5-run fifth inning to secure an 11-1 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday night at Horner Ballpark.
Jaron DeBerry worked 6.0 innings and allowed just one unearned run to help the Patriots secure the series victory over the Islanders.Â
DBU would reach the scoreboard first again as
Ethan Mann came through with a two-out RBI single in the first inning to score
Miguel Santos and give DBU a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Joey Neart would hit his second home run in as many nights to double the Patriots' lead and make it 2-0.
Miguel Santos tacked on another in the third with an RBI groundout to deep short, and DBU had a 3-0 lead after three frames.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi would tack on their only run of the night via an RBI groundout off the bat of Josh Blount in the fourth.
DBU starter Jaaron DeBerry was excellent in his fifth start of the year, working 6.0 innings and allowing just one unearned run on four hits. DeBerry also struck out six Islanders and surrendered just one walk. Â
The Patriots would follow DeBerry's strong starts with an excellent performance out of the bullpen from freshman
Charlie Atkinson, who threw 2.0 scoreless innings to close the game.
Much like last night, DBU broke the game open in the middle innings.
Luke Heefner delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, and in the fifth,
Ethan Mann came through with the big swing of the night, a three-run home run to highlight a five-run fifth inning and put DBU up 9-1.
The Patriots would add two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on a
Nathan Humphreys'Â solo home run, and
Michael Dattalo ended the game with an RBI single up the middle to invoke the 10-run rule.
